From finding little gems while thrifting to being inspired by stylists like Law Roach, while some may only see fashion and think of admiring it, for Briana Stubbfield this is something she chose to look into further and pursue.

On Saturday April 15th, 2023 first year advertising master’s student, Briana Stubbfield was given the opportunity to showcase her designs, titled Borderless, to a live audience down the Hook’d spring fashion show runway, and she’s not looking back.

Ever since high school, from dressing up and giving people styling tips, ‘the passion for fashion’ was ever present with Stubbfield, but she had never thought of it going further, until she discovered Hook’d.

“That was an eye opener for me because I always thought about fashion but I never thought about it as me doing the behind the scenes work,” Stubbfield said. “Joining Hook’d and getting hands on experience was the first moment that I was like I could really do this”

Stubbfield’s designs had previously been showcased in previous Hook’d Issues within the magazine’s pages. While she has been a stylist for over two years, this event was the first time her designs were showcased in real time.

“This fashion show, styling for shoots and doing things for the magazine, that's all the way, ” Stubbfield said. “I'm really putting myself out there, but I am trying to network as well and (trying) to expand and put stuff on my portfolio as well so people can see all of it.”

The patterns, textures and colors Stubbfield added was something she wanted to incorporate in her collection and her overall vibe with a mix collage type of designs.

“If you saw this skirt tonight (fashion show day) on one of the models it had some velvet, a bit of denim, and so I like to mix and match things like that,” Stubbfield said.

A big contributor to her inspiration, Stubbfield said, is from the different people  she meets walking across the streets of Austin. Stubbfield describes the city as being ‘weird and quirky’.

“Everyone's just kind of like doing their own thing,” Stubbfield said.

The stylist expressed that she doesn't yet know how far she’s willing to take fashion in her career, but the more she starts putting herself out there and continuing to accomplish feats like this, it makes her more efficient in her career.

“As of now fashion is a path that I've been following,” Stubbfield said. “I'm not gonna stop, it's (fashion) always gonna be there.”
