From a hobby cultivated during the COVID-19 pandemic circa 2020 to the Haus of Hook’d fashion show runway, every stitch of Christina Guillermo’s designs tells a story worth paying attention to.

Christina Guillermo, a marketing major with a minor in management information systems from Dallas, TX, showcased her immaculate designs on April 13, 2024, at the Haus of Hook’d 3rd annual fashion show. Christina’s designs were carefully crafted, incorporating relevant styling through her use of neutral colors and earthy tones. Her streetwear designs added new layers to the trends of today’s current fashion era.

Guillermo finds inspiration in the little pieces of art she encounters in everyday life. "A lot of my designs are inspired by Pinterest as well as architecture, especially with the hook'd theme for sanctum," said Guillermo. "I thought that was funny because I was already drawing inspiration from architecture as well as just random things I see."

In terms of inspiration, through her designs, Christina hopes to inspire people to let their inner creativity surface. "I want people to think, 'oh hey, that's cool' when they look at my stuff, especially as a business major. I feel like there's not a lot of outlets for creativity," said Guillermo. "So I definitely think it's great when people in conventional majors or professions have a creative outlet like this."

Reflecting on her recent experience at the Hooked fashion show, Christina is filled with pride and self-fulfillment. “ It's really great being able to see it all come together," Guillermo said. "It's a lot of hard work that I put into it that has finally paid off. People are actually enjoying it and telling me , 'hey, I really like your stuff.' It just makes me really happy inside."

Guillermo also speaks on the importance of a designer listening to one’s model. “I'm really open and receptive, you know, like feedback and having input because I want to make sure people feel comfortable in what they're wearing.”

As for what the future holds, Christina plans to keep fashion and designing on the side in order to keep it enjoyable. “I think for now I'll just keep it as a side hobby and also as a creative outlet,” describes Guillermo. “When I'm tired from whatever I'm doing I like to design or sketch, so I just want to keep it a safe space."
